Games Make Us Better
Medicine Games, Inc. is a non-profit organization which seeks to improve the access to games and gaming culture for underserved Indigenous youth in the United States. These games include, but are not limited to, board games, card games, roleplaying games, and video games. Games have been shown to improve mental health and social ability, build communities through shared recreation and engagement, and enable success through education and representation. We are an Indigenous-led organization, and maintain an Indigenous majority on our board of directors.
While there are many successful organizations which support athletic competition and sports available to Indigenous youth in the United States, we seek to remove the barriers which they may encounter when seeking other kinds of competition and recreation. We seek to do this both through direct action campaigns, such as purchasing and distributing board games and donating them to Indigenous community centers, as well as sponsored play programs, which allow Indigenous youth to volunteer their time running events at Indigenous community centers or attending gaming-related conventions. It is our goal to eventually support Indigenous youth through a scholarship system so they can seek higher education in game art and design.
We believe in the power of games to build lifelong connections and transform those who play. It is our mission to use the power of games to better the lives of Indigenous youth throughout the United States.
